N DK ch Waterley Handsom Hero

17.09.2004-12.01.2009

The end is allways comming, but this was to soon.

You are the one dog that I will never forget.

Iam sorry to write this but I have to.

In December Hero was realy sick and we thought it was the end.

It started with just diarreha for a week,

so I gave him a medecin that had helped him earlier.

After a week he was not better, and it was blood in his pooh.

I went to the vet, an she took a exray of his tomie and started with

antibiotic, and gave him barium fluid.

She altso took several blod test and sent them to different labratorys.

Nothing gave her a answer on what was wrong.

He was lousing a lot of weight from 14kg to 11,5kg.

During that week he did not respond on the antibiotic.

He did'n want water so I had to fors him.

He was trying to avoid us and the other dogs.

Since I have a lot of friends having dogs and I asked everybody

of help abouth medecin that would help him.

One of my friends has cows and sheeps, and she sayed that

I should ask my vet for a medecin she used on the cows.

I went back to my vet, and he got the medecin,

but my vet did not belive that he would get bether.

Since it was the tomy he could not get painkillers in tablet form.

So we were at the vet every day to give him painkillers by syringe.

After 5 days I could se a change in him, and he seemd a lot bether.

It was finerly a hope.

He went bether and bether every day

and the vet did not belive that he was recovering.

She had said the last time that I shoud let him go.

The vet said that he had to have the special food for the rest of his life,

and that we had to know that it was kronical.

My thought will bee feed well, feel well...

We had 4 realy good weeks and everyting looked good.

This weekend I have been to a course so the dogs have been with my mother.

With here it is never other things for the dogs to eat then food.

The night before Sunday he was again starting with the diarreha but no blood.

Sunday he was out every five miniut and on Monday the blood was back.

He did not want water, and was just sleeping.

Back with the vet she said that his body was not realy recovering from the last time,

and she could not give him the strong medicine for cows again.

She told us that he was dry in his skin and the eyes also had an infection.

We had to decide what was best for him this time, and not for us.

My mother and Øystein asked me to give him up,

and it is the worst thing I have had to decide one a dog before.

He was the love of my heart, and we have been together every minut we can for four years.

It will never bee anough for me and there is nobody who can ever take his place.

He has tought me more than any other dogs I have ever had.

We have been to a lady who can speak to the dogs,

and that gave me more than any thing I ever has experient.

I am sorry to say but he is gone no, and there is a big houl in my life.

The first moment I saw Hero, I fell totally in love!

I went to see Mark and Glenn for a bitch,- a male was never on my mind.

But when I saw little ”grumpy”, I was sold!

Glenn came with him by plane in November 2004, and from the moment,

he set his paws in our house, he was a part of our family.

When he was 5 months old we decided to take him to a puppy show,

but since we had never brought him to a big thing like that, I was really nervous.

We got up very early so that he could have a chance to get relaxed at the show…

What a waste of time. He owned the place from the moment he entered the show!

So full of himself!!

And the show result spoke for itself : BEST IN SHOW PUPPY!!!

As time went by he continued to be a superb show dog,

and we decided to try new activities.

We entered him in 4 different courses at Thorleif Lundquist’.

He is the best dog trainer I know to teach obedience to family dogs.

When he was 1 year old, we checked his hips, and unfortunately he had

a C-hip on one side.

On the other side he had an A- hip.

This meant that he could not be used in breeding in Norway.

Of course it was a sad moment when we found out,

but in the end he was still our beloved Hero.

A C-hip does not cause pain in a dog,

so we didn’t think of it as a big problem.

But, when Hero was 3 years old, he started to look very stiff

when he had been out walking.

Often, when he had been relaxing in the car on our way home again,

he did not want to jump out.

We went to the veterinarian and had a full x-ray examination done.

The results of this was not good:

The three lowest vertebrae on his back showed grave arthritis and stenosis.

Nearly at the same time he was starting to have skin problems.

Some of the wounds were really bad,

so I had to cut off the fur around the affected areas.

As you can understand of the pictures,

he does not feel good when his skin is like this.

We have tried nearly everything to make him better: Acupuncture,

”Arthroflex” (glucosamine), ceratin, special diet food for dogs with arthritis,

special diet food for dogs with skin problems, special shampoos…

You name it, we have tried it…

This is the reason why Hero now lives as a short cut here at home.

It is the best way I can help him with his skin condition.

It is also really painful for him when I lift his hind legs while brushing him.

I know that people are talking, and it really hurts!!

My husband have said that I have to think about how Hero feels,

but it is not possible!!!

He is my heart and I love him to bits!!

Today we have started the last kind og treatment for him!

He gets cortisone cream for his skin and pain medicine for his back.

Hopefully this can give him a good quality of life for some years!!!
